MURAL TIP #4 | Designing Mural Artwork on Canva (for non-artists)

I’m not a professional coffee maker, but my little coffee spread in my kitchen (and my confidence surrounding it) could definitely fool you;)

What I’m saying is: it’s okay if you aren’t an artist! You can still paint murals and make them look daaaang good! Let’s take some daring baby steps into it…

Keep your Mural Simple

Simple doesn’t mean boring. Some of my favorite murals are super simple line art, and actually I sometimes wonder why I don’t do that style more and make things easier on myself LOL. So, when thinking about your mural, choose minimal colors, simple shapes, or maybe one word.

A fantastic resource is to use Canva!

  1. Go to Canva.com

  2. Use their free templates section to find a super simple design.

  3. Search for a theme.

  4. Alter it as needed

  5. Download it as an image.

Here is an example of a Tropical Mural Design

I went into Canva.com and knew I wanted a tropical theme, so I typed “tropical” into the top left and it loaded about 10 template options. I chose the design that I liked and that seemed easy AKA minimal colors & shapes.

To make it more of my design, I then changed the words to “Good Vibes” and chose a font I liked better. I took off the extra words and removed the colored background to make it simpler yet. Now my mural design looks like this:

Super cool and easy, right?! This mural design would be perfect for a bathroom, bedroom, or a kid’s room! Give it a go, and let me know if you do!

PS. If you want to see how to transfer this design onto a wall, I have video tutorials included inside my course “Paint Murals Like A Pro.” The entire course is available for you to start today right HERE.
