MURAL TIP #2 | Top 10 Mural Supplies

Sometimes it’s hard to get started on a project if you don’t even know what stuff to use to actually…get started.

So having good supplies, and more specifically, the right supplies can make all the difference. But then, do you need all the name brand stuff? I say if you can buy the good stuff, do it! But, if you aren’t ready to invest in some of the pricier brands, that’s totally fine too.

What I’m saying is: don’t use not having the perfect supplies as an excuse to not get started. Okay, now that we’re clear on that, let me tell you about some favorite supplies I’ve bought and used through the years!

By the way, if you just want a quick list, my list of my supplies is right HERE.

Supplies I LOVE:

  1. My 1.5” Purdy Paintbrush. Maybe this is a personal preference, but this paintbrush is so dang fantastic. Just works like a charm.

  2. Sherwin Williams Sample Paint. Quarts with screw-off lids, excellent coverage, and under $10, yes please!! FYI: For professional projects, get the real stuff:)

  3. My 12.9” iPad Pro + Apple Pencil. This combo was a 100% game-changer for my mural biz and probably half the reason it grew so fast. Plus, I love designing on airplanes with it. Too Easy!

Supplies I LIKE:

  1. My projector. I like it because it gets the job done. I don’t love it because I want (and need) a better one. What’s better? A projector that projects in bight light, is short throw, and very portable!

  2. Montana Acrylic Markers. I like them because they are so convenient, yet sometimes they don’t match the rest of your mural or work well with the wall you’ve chosen.

  3. ProCreate. for $10, you can’t get a better app to design murals on…except for its downfall: it isn’t vector. Luckily, I usually don’t need vector, so I’m still using it for most designs!

Supplies that come in the most HANDY:

  1. Wet wipes. Honestly, I don’t do projects without them.

  2. Vine charcoal. Love using this stuff to get my design onto the wall.

  3. A tub to hold everything and keep it organized.

  4. Snacks. Duh.

Obviously there are many more supplies than these ten, but these are my favorites that I would totally recommend having for a wonderful mural painting experience:)
